Step 1 — Visibility and Allocation

You cannot optimize what you cannot measure. Establish comprehensive tagging strategies and use tools like AWS Cost Explorer or Kubecost to allocate spend to specific teams and microservices.

Step 2 — Optimization Strategies

Once visibility is achieved, implement strategies such as Right-Sizing, Spot Instances, and Savings Plans.

  • Spot Instances: Run stateless, fault-tolerant workloads on deeply discounted spare capacity.
  • Right-Sizing: Adjust CPU/Memory requests down based on historical utilization data.
  • Auto-scaling: Scale down environments during non-business hours (e.g., staging).
